Nationwide Scope with Four Regional Championships
Included in the search for the best collegiate teams in the country are 149 teams belonging to 21 provincial leagues. These teams will compete for the four Regional Champions slots in the 2009 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games.
North/Central Luzon Regional Championship
The “mother leagues” included in this tournament are SCUAA (Vigan), BEAL (Baguio), PRISAA Pangasinan and UCLAA (Pampanga). The Champion teams of these leagues will compete for the North/Central Luzon Regional Championship to be held at Vigan City. The winning team will advance to the next stage of competition, the Luzon-MetroManila Qualifying Zonal games.
South Luzon-Bicol Region Regional Championship
The four “mother leagues” participating are Naga Inter-Collegiate, Quezon Inter-Collegiate, Legaspi Mayor’s Cup and Sorsogon Inter-school. The Champion teams of these leagues will compete for the South Luzon-Bicol Regional Championship and the winning team will join the Luzon-MetroManila Qualifying Zonal games.
Visayas (excluding Cebu) Regional Championship
Six “mother leagues” are participating, namely, NOPSCEA, Iloilo AA, Ormoc Inter-school, Leyte USCAA, Dumaguete Inter-school and Bohol Inter-school. The Visayas (excluding Cebu) Regional Champion will advance to the next level, the VisMin-MetroManila Qualifying Zonal games.
Mindanao Regional Championship
The seven “mother leagues” in this area are: COSAA, Cag. De Oro-Prisaa, Davao Inter-collegiate, Gen. Santos Inter-collegiate, FBZ Inter-school (Zamboanga City), Zamboanga-Sibugay Inter-schools and Dipolog Inter-schools. The Mindanao Regional Champion will advance to the VisMin-MetroManila Qualifying Zonal games.
SOME BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO PCCL GAMES:
- Official Team Line-up. This is the team line-up submitted for the current collegiate season and approved by the respective “mother leagues”, e.g., UAAP, or NCAA, etc. Any replacement in the official line-up must be a player qualified to play for the current collegiate season as approved by the “mother league” concerned.
- Player’s Age Limit. Players who are over 25 years of age as of date of competition shall not be allowed to play.
- Foreign Players. The official team line-up may have a maximum of two foreign players. However, the team may field only one foreign player at a time during the game.
- Suspended Player/Team. A player who is suspended by the “mother league” where the team belongs shall serve his suspension during the PCCL games unless such suspension has been lifted by the “mother league” concerned. A team that is suspended by the “mother league” where the team belongs shall not be qualified to play in the PCCL tournament unless such suspension has been lifted by the “mother league” concerned.
- Penalty for violation of player eligibility rule is forfeiture of all games where said player/s are fielded.
- Game Stoppage – Games stopped due to force majure are subject to the following rules:
a) if stoppage happens in the first half, the game shall be replayed in full with all scores starting at zero;
b) if stoppage happens in the 2nd half, the game shall be replayed and will resume from the time it was stopped with all scores and statistics standing;
c) the first half break is considered part of the first half.
- For attempted shots in the dying seconds of every quarter, referees should consult the table officials, T.V monitor or a member of the tournament technical staff to determine if a shot is counted or not, a 3-point shot or not.
- Bench Decorum:
- All coaches must stay within the coaches’ box;
- Only the head coach can stand up and talk with the referees during dead ball situations;
- Members of the coaching staff can stand up one at a time;
- Team captain is the only player allowed to communicate with the referee inside the court;
- Violation fo bench decorum is penalized with warning on the first offense and a technical foul on succeeding offense.
- Games are played under FIBA rules except for specific exceptions as will be advised.
- Protests must be filed immediately after the game and the decision of the Tournament Director is final
