SSC-R Cavite Baycats, UC Webmasters Advance to Sweet 16

San Sebastian College-Recoletos Cavite Baycats, NAASCU champion, and University of Cebu Webmasters, CESAFI Runner-up, join the elite “Sweet 16” group by winning the Champions League Cebu Zonal Qualifying games held at Cebu Coliseum, Cebu City.

Tied at two wins and one loss, the Baycats and the Webmasters edged out the Adamson University Soaring Falcons with better quotients. In the final games, SSC-R outclassed Adamson U, 88 to 78 to grab the top spot while UC eliminated USJ-R Jaguars, 103 to 86.

De La Salle Green Archers, 2008 Philippine Collegiate Champion and UAAP 6th placer, together with eleven other contenders will vie for the last three remaining seats in the “Sweet 16” Finals of the PLDT-SMART supported 2009 Philippine Collegiate Championship games.

The Manila zonal games start today with two slots at stake. The eight participating teams are Mapua Cardinals, University of Manila Hawks, Universal Colleges Dragons, La Consolacion College Blue Royals, Central Colleges of the Philippines Bobcats, Lyceum of Subic Bay Cats, Philippine Christian University Dolphins and Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates.

One Finals seat is at stake at the Naga City zonal games starting November 12 to 14. Competing against the Green Archers are the St. Francis of Assisi Doves, University of Nueva Caceres Greyhounds and NCAA-South Champion, Don Bosco Technical College Grey Wolves.

Currently, the elite “Sweet 16” are composed of five teams from NCAA, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags, San Beda Red Lions, JRU Heavy Bombers, Letran Knights and Arellano University Chiefs; four teams from UAAP, Ateneo Blue Eagles, UE Red Warriors, FEU Tamaraws and UST Growling Tigers; three teams from CESAFI, UV Green Lancers, University of Cebu Webmasters and University of San Carlos Warriors; and from NAASCU, SSC-Recoletos Cavite Baycats.
