NATIONAL COLLEGIATE CHAMPION UPDATE

Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles, four-peat UAAP champion and back-to-back National Collegiate champion (2009 and 2010), are again on top of the Champions League (PCCL) 2011 National Collegiate Championship Sweet 16 Finals.
The Blue Eagles are seeded in the Final Four Championship round together with NCAA champion, San Beda College Red Lions.
The Southern Islands Overall Champion and the Winner of the Luzon-MetroManila bracket will complete the Final Four championship Round.
As of date, the other Sweet 16 Finalists that will compete in the “step-ladder knock out” phase for the last two seats in the Final Four are the FEU Tamaraws, Adamson U Soaring Falcons, UST Growling Tigers, San Sebastian Golden Stags, Letran Knights, JRU Heavy Bombers, University of Cebu Webmasters and SWU Cobras.
SIX MORE FOR SWEET 16
Six seats in the Sweet 16 Finals are still vacant.
Four seats are allotted to the regional champions of North/Central Luzon, South Luzon-Bicol, Mindanao and Visayas (except Cebu). Twenty one teams are competing for these regional championships: four teams from North/Central Luzon; six teams in the South Luzon/Bicol region; five teams in Mindanao; and six teams in the Visayas region (except Cebu).
The Regional competitions are scheduled on November 7 and 8 at the UNP Gym, Vigan City; November 11 and 12 at the Naga Coliseum, Naga City; November 15 and 16 at the Almendras Gym in Davao City; and November 27 and 28 at Ormoc Astrodome, Ormoc City.
METRO MANILA QUALIFYING GAMES
Two seats are at stake in the Metro Manila qualifying games to complete the Sweet 16 Finalists. The games are scheduled on November 8 to 10 at the FilOil Flying V Arena (San Juan) with eight teams competing in “knock-out” (losers go home) affair, with the remaining two teams left standing advancing to the Sweet 16 Finals.
Participating are NAASCU champion University of Manila Hawks, UCLAAI champion St. Francis of Assisi Doves, MNCAA champion Centro Escolar University Scorpions, ISSA champion Technological Institute of the Phils. Engineers, UAAP 5th placer National University Bulldogs, UAAP 6th placer DLSU Green Archers, NCAA 5th placer Mapua Cardinals, and NCAA 6th placer Lyceum of the Phils Pirates.
While the NU Bulldogs and DLSU Green Archers are the experts’ choice to advance, champions of the other “mother leagues” and the NCAA teams are determined to end the season with a high note by making it to the list of the elite top 16 teams.
FILOIL FLYING V SPORTS
FilOil Flying V Sports top honcho Raffy Villavicencio recently renewed its partnership with PCCL by agreeing to be the venue sponsor for the Metro Manila qualifying games starting November 8 and the Sweet 16 Finals starting November 19 to be held at the home of the Champions League, the FilOil Flying V Arena at San Juan City.
The sponsorship also allows the Villavicencio group of companies led by FilOil Flying V to have advertising materials at the site of the regional games at UNP Gym at Vigan City, Naga Coliseum at Naga City, Almendras Gym at Davao City and Ormoc Astrodome at Ormoc City.
FilOil Flying V Sports organizes the popular pre-season tournament which runs from April to June featuring the UAAP and NCAA teams preparing for the new season. The partnership with PCCL in the season-ending National Collegiate Championship completes the Villavicencio group of companies’ year-round commitment to the development of collegiate basketball.
SM TICKET
PCCL also signed an agreement with SM Prime Holdings, Inc., the company operating and administering the computerized ticketing network, SM Tickets. This agreement authorizes SM Ticket as the ticketing outlet for the PCCL games.
Basketball fans can now purchase tickets for the Champions League games, the regional championships and the Sweet 16 Finals, at the various SM Cinema branches located across the nationwide chain of SM Supermalls and also online thru the SM Ticket website.
PCCL’s tie-up with SM Ticket through the nationwide network of SM Supermalls and the online facility of SM Ticket is in line with its objective of making it easy for local basketball fans to avail of tickets for quality games involving the best collegiate teams in the country.
TELEVISION COVERAGE
ABS-CBN television network, the media partner of PCCL, will cover the regional championship games in addition to the Sweet 16 “step-ladder knock-out” games and the Final Four championship round robin. The games will be shown at Studio 23 and Balls channels.
The goal of ABS-CBN Sports is to promote the National Collegiate Championship as the premier season-ending collegiate basketball event where the “one and only National Champion” is crowned.
